Patricia Oleksiak

Coming from a working-class family with a migration background, hard work and achievement have always been at the forefront of my life.

That this lifestyle would eventually affect my mental and physical health seems obvious to me now. Severe late-onset acne, weight gain, and elevated cortisol levels were warning signs that I ignored for a long time—at the expense of my health.

After completing my high school diploma, studying industrial engineering, and earning my master's degree, I became self-employed in the field of social media management. However, there came a point when nothing was "just easy" anymore.

I decided to seek therapy and discovered how helpful it was for me. But I missed a place in everyday life where I could not only talk about my mental health but also learn concrete tools and methods to proactively prepare myself for challenges—even before they arise. I wanted to find a space where I could continuously work on my mental resilience and learn how to respond optimally in various situations.

The question that kept nagging at me was: If I train for a marathon by regularly strengthening my physical fitness, why shouldn’t I also give my mind the same attention?

This realization sparked the founding of Slows—a space that values mental fitness as much as physical fitness. A place where everyone can learn to manage their thoughts and feelings and gain tools for a healthier everyday life.
